1.Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Varanasi and
Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh for one day. He attended the One District, One
Product Regional Summit at Deendayal Hastakala Sankul in Varanasi.
2.The Congress-led Madhya Pradesh Government announced that
it is going to create an Adhyatmik Vibhag (spiritual department) by merging
several existing department.
3.Smriti Mandhana has won the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Award for
the ICC Women’s Cricketer of the Year and also been named as the ICC Women’s
ODI Player of Player of the Year.
4.Sudhir Bhargava, a former Secretary to the Ministry of
Social Justice, has taken charge as new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) on
January 1.
5.Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) day is
observed on 1st January. The DRDO was established in 1958 with just 10
laboratories to enhance the research work in defence sector. Dr. G Satheesh
Reddy is the Chairman of DRDO. DRDO works under the Department of Defence
Research and Development of Ministry of Defence.
6.V K Yadav has been appointed the national transporter's
senior-most bureaucrat by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.
7.On 1st January 2019, Jair Bolsonaro has been sworn-in as
new president of Brazil for a four-year term. He is a member of the Social
Liberal Party (PSL).
8.ISRO) has recently launched Samwad with Students as part of
its outreach programme. The Indian Space agency will engage youngsters across
the country in activities concerning space science under this programme.
9.France has recently introduced a new “GAFA tax” - named
after the large internet and technology companies viz. Google, Apple, Facebook
and Amazon - to ensure the global giants pay a fair share of taxes on
their massive businesses in Europe.
10.The Veer Savarkar International Airport in Port Blair has
been declared as an authorized Immigration Check post for entry into/exit from
India with valid travel documents for all classes of passengers.
11.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed an 8-member
expert committee headed by former SEBI chairman U.K. Sinha to comprehensively
review and propose long-term solutions for the economic and financial
sustainability of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector.
12.Virat Kohli beats Cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar's to
become the fastest batsman to score 19000 international runs on the 1st day of
4th Test Match in Sydney against Australia.
13.Housing and Urban Affairs Minister, Hardeep Singh Puri
inaugurated the 'Swachh Survekshan 2019' on 4 January 2019. The cleanliness
survey will cover 40 crore people across over four thousand towns and cities.
14.The Centre’s recently introduced ‘Ujjwala
Sanitary Napkins’ initiative is being seen as an attempt
to counter the ‘Khushi’
scheme launched by the Odisha State government.
15.NASA’s
OSIRIS-Rex spacecraft
has set a new milestone in cosmic exploration by entering orbit around an
asteroid, Bennu,
the smallest object ever to be circled by a human-made spaceship.
16.The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) plans to
raise Rs10,000 crore through Bharatmala Taxable Bonds in the ongoing financial
year.Bharatmala Project is the second largest highways construction project in the
country since NHDP, under which almost 50,000 km or highway
roads were targeted across the country.
17.The 2019 edition of the Climate
Change Performance Index (CCPI) has been
released.Sweden is in top position, followed by Morocco and Lithuania,India
ranks 11th in this year’s CCPI.
