1.India, Afghanistan and Iran recently met to
discuss the issues in the implementation of Chabahar port in Iran. Chabahar
port is Located on the Gulf of Oman and
is the
only oceanic port of the country. The three countries
have decided to
open Mormugoa and New Mangalore Port in addition to JNPT, Mundra, Kandla and
Cochin as part of designated route under the Chabahar Agreement.
2.Winter
Solstice this
year falls on December
22. The Sun is directly overhead of the Tropic of Capricorn in the Southern
Hemisphere.
3.National Mathematics Day is celebrated
every year on December 22.It's to
honor the birth anniversary of the famous mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. 1729
is known as the Hardy-Ramanujan number.
4.Hunar Haats are organised by Ministry of Minority Affairs under
USTTAD (Upgrading the Skills & Training in Traditional Arts/Crafts for
Development) scheme. Hunar Haat is an exhibition
of handicrafts and traditional products made by artisans from the Minority
communities.
5.DRDO has successfully test-fired indigenously
developed Quick
Reaction Surface-to-Air missiles (QRSAM) from a test
range off the Odisha coast.It is capable of hitting the low flying objects.
6.Govt notifies rules for fixation of microdots
identifiers on vehicles. which give a unique
identification. Use of this technology will help check theft of vehicles
and also use of fake spare parts.
7.Swadesh Darshan Scheme: Tourism Ministry launched the scheme in
2015.Aim is to develop theme-based tourist circuits in the country. 100%
centrally funded for the project .
8.To battle rising air
pollution in cities, an ”Oxygen Parlour” has been opened at Nashik
railway station. The parlour contains some unique
plants that
better absorb the five most harmful pollutants from the air.
9.The government will name the strategic tunnel under
Rohtang Pass after former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth
anniversary on December 25th. The
8.8-km-long tunnel is the world’s longest above an altitude of 3,000
metres.
10.The Prime Minister of India paid tribute
to Pt.
Madan Mohan Malaviya on his 158th birth anniversary
(25th December, 2019).He was the editor of a Hindi magazine, ‘Hindosthan’, ‘Indian Opinion’ in
1889.He was
instrumental in founding the Benares Hindu University in 1916.
11.Latest edition of the
‘Good Governance Index’ has been launched on the occasion
of ‘Good
Governance Day’ on 25th December. Tamil Nadu on top on
the states and Pondicheri on UTs.
12.Typhoon
phanfone lashed the central Philippines recently. A
typhoon is a mature tropical cyclone that develops
between 180° and 100°E in the Northern Hemisphere.
13.Nari Shakti Puraskars on
eminent women and institutions in recognition of their service towards the
cause of women empowerment. The Ministry of Women and Child Development
announces these national level awards.
14. Illegal Bt brinjal cultivation in
Haryana have been confirmed recently. India banned Bt brinjal in 2010. A GM or transgenic crop is a
plant that has a novel combination of genetic material obtained through
the use of modern biotechnology.
15.The India State of Forest Report 2019 has
been released. Karnataka
tops the country in growing the maximum amount of
forest in the last two years.Karnataka is followed by Andhra Pradesh (990 sq
km) and Kerala (823 sq km).
16.US astronaut Christina
Koch has set the record for the longest single spaceflight by a woman when
she reached, and crossed, 289 days in her current mission.
17.Madhya Pradesh gets its first
elephant colony on Bandhavgarh
Tiger Reserve: In 1968, it was notified as a
national park and in 1993 was declared a tiger
reserve- under the Project Tiger-1973.
18.NITI Aayog has released the 2019
SDG (sustainable development goals) India Index. Kerala
retained the
top rank with a score of 70. Chandigarh
maintained its top
spot among the UTs. Bihar, Jharkhand and Arunachal
Pradesh are the
worst performing states.
19.The latest edition of National
Children’s Science Congress was held in Thiruvananthapuram. Theme: “Science, Technology
and Innovation for a Clean, Green and Healthy Nation”.
20.The outgoing Army chief, Gen. Bipin Rawat, has been appointed as the
country’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS).Upper age limit for the CDS
has been fixed at 65 years.
