1.Article 370 and
Art.35A were scrapped by the Parliament on August 5, 2019, after Union Home
Minister tabled the historic amendment in the Parliament, and proposed
that the state be bifurcated into two union territories -- Jammu and Kashmir,
and Ladak. Satya Pal Malik is the governor in J&K.
2. Jair Bolsonaro is the
current president of Brazil.
3.Vinesh Phogat won her 3rd
consecutive gold in women's 53kg category in the Poland Open Wrestling
Tournament in Warsaw, the capital of Poland.
4.Pathamadai Silk Mat has recently
granted a GI tag. It is from Tamil Nadu.
5.In order to save the natural
resources, the Union environment ministry unveiled a draft 'Nation Resource
Efficiency Policy' which suggests the institutional mechanism and a three-year
action plan through the principle of 6R and 'green public procurement'.
6.Former President of India Pranab
Mukherjee, singer Bhupen Hazarika and Bharatiya Jana Sangh leader Nanaji
Deshmukh have been conferred Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award in 2019.
7.Serena Williams topped the
Forbes list of 'Highest paid female athletes' of 2019.
8.On 8th August 1942, Mahatma
Gandhi launched the Quit India Movement for freedom from British rule,
It was a Civil Disobedience Movement launched by Gandhi for Satyagraha
(independence). It was 77th Anniversary this year.
9.Ayushmann Khuranna and Vicky
Kaushal got best actor award in National Film Awards 2019 for Uri :
The Surgical Strike. Hellaro got the award of Best Feature Film in
National Film Awards 2019.
10.In Meghalaya, the 22nd National
Conference on e-Governance 2019 was held at Shillong on August 8-9, 2019 with
theme "Digital India: Success to Excellence".
11.The United States has designated China a
"currency manipulator", following the devaluation of the Yuan. The
US action came after China allowed its yuan to weaken past the key
seven-per-dollar level for the first time in more than a decade.
12.In India, the 5th edition of National Handloom Day (NHD) has
celebrated on 7th August 2019 to honour the handloom weavers in the country and
also highlight India’s handloom industry.
13.Indian Grandmaster Surya Shekhar Ganguly from Kolkata has won the
2019 Belt and Road China Hunan International chess tournament.
14.The Kerala Government has signed MoU with ISRO to develop Space Park
at at Knowledge City in Thiruvanathapuram.
15.India has recently submitted proposals to boost to protection status
of 5 wildlife species at CITES.CITES HQ: Washington DC. CITES (Convention
on International Trade in Endangered Species on Wild Fauna and Flora).
16.Indian Mountaineering Expedition team
to climb Mt. Elbrus. Mt. Elbrus is the highest peak in European Continent. It
is a
dormant volcano in the Caucasus Mountains in Southern Russia.
17.As part of centenary year
celebrations of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, father of Indian space programme, ISRO has
announced its “Vikram
Sarabhai Journalism Award in Space Science, Technology and Research”.
18.UNIDO and National Institute
of Solar Energy to initiate a skill development programme for
different levels of beneficiaries in the solar thermal energy
sector. UNIDO is the specialized agency of the United Nations that promotes
industrial development for poverty reduction, inclusive globalization and environmental
sustainability.
19.2019 is
the United
Nations’ International Year of Indigenous Languages. Papua New
Guinea has the highest number of ‘living’ indigenous languages in the world
(840).
20.Registration
opens for PM
Kisan Maan Dhan Yojana. The scheme is voluntary and contributory for farmers in the
entry age group of 18 to 40 years.
21.World Biofuel Day
is observed every year on 10th August. Theme 2019: ‘Production
of Biodiesel from Used Cooking Oil (UCO)’.
22.United Nations
Secretary-General António Guterres has expressed concern over the situation in
Jammu and Kashmir. Referring to the Simla Agreement, which was signed by
India and Pakistan in 1972. signed by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and
Pakistani President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
