 1.High levels of ammonia (3 ppm) were recently detected in the Yamuna river.  The acceptable maximum limit of ammonia in drinking water, as per the Bureau of Indian Standards, is 0.5 ppm.  Ammonia is a colourless gas and is used as an industrial chemical in the production of fertilisers, plastics, synthetic fibres, dyes and other products.


2.The Union government on July 28, 2020, launched the Green-Ag Project in Mizoram, to reduce emissions from agriculture and ensure sustainable agricultural practices. Mizoram is one of the five states where the project will be implemented. Other states include Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and Uttarakhand. The Green-Ag Project is funded by the Global Environment Facility.


3.Global Tiger day is Observed on 29 July. Country’s tiger population: 2,967 — unchanged from the government’s estimate last year. Madhya Pradesh has the highest number of tigers at 526, closely followed by Karnataka (524) and Uttarakhand (442). Chhattisgarh and Mizoram saw a decline in tiger population. While Pench Tiger Reserve in Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number of tigers, Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu registered the “maximum improvement” since 2014. The fourth cycle of the All India Tiger Estimation 2018 recently entered the Guinness World Record for being the world’s largest camera trap wildlife survey. The National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) has launched the M-STrIPES (Monitoring System for Tigers – Intensive Protection and Ecological Status), a mobile monitoring system for forest guards. The Project Tiger,launched way back in 1973.


4.First new education policy in 34 years has been brought out. The union Cabinet gave its nod to the new policy recently. A panel headed by former ISRO chief K. Kasturirangan submitted a draft in December 2018 related to it. Education is a concurrent subject. The recently approved National Education Policy 2020 will replace the thirty-four year old National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986. Ministry of Human Resource Development has been renamed as Ministry of Education. Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank is current Union Minister for Human Resource Development.


5.Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Mauritius counterpart Pravind Jugnauth jointly inaugurated the new Supreme Court built in Port Louis with Indian grant assistance. It is the capital city of Mauritius, in the Indian Ocean.


6.UAE is going to host the 6th annual meeting of Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in 2021. The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank is a multilateral development bank that aims to support the building of infrastructure in the Asia-Pacific region.  Headquartered in Beijing. India has joined in it. Formed on : January 16,2016.


7.‘Mausam’ is the name of the weather forecast application launched by the India Meteorological Department recently.


8.July 28th of every year is celebrated as the World Nature Conservation Day. 


9.Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan launched the Bureau of Indian Standard's Mobile App, 'BIS-Care', by which consumers can check the authenticity of the ISI and hallmarked products and also lodge complaints using this app.


10.World Health Organisations(WHOs) World Hepatitis Day is annually observed on 28 July. The theme of 2020 World Hepatitis Day is "Find the Missing Millions". 


11.NASA tentatively planned to launch in December 2023 from Antarctica, ASTHROS (short for Astrophysics Stratospheric Telescope for High Spectral Resolution Observations at Submillimeter-wavelengths).

13.Recently, Indian Air Force (IAF) has received its first batch (5 out of 36) of French Rafale aviation combat aircraft at Ambala Air base (Haryana). The Rafales are India's first major acquisition of fighter planes in 23 years after the Sukhoi jets were imported from Russia. The Rafale would be an aid to the Joint Strategic Vision of India-France Cooperation in the Indian Ocean Region.


14.Recently, the Haryana government has employed aerial seeding techniques to improve green cover in the Aravalli area of the state. The project is being carried out on a pilot basis to regenerate the low vegetation density or denuded areas on inaccessible or difficult sites of Aravalli and Shivalik hills.
