Current affairs notes on July 1- July 5.

1.Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana in news: Considered as world’s largest food security scheme, the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana aims at ensuring sufficient food for the poor and needy during the coronavirus crisis. Part of the scheme, the food needs to be provided to all the beneficiaries under public distribution system (TPDS) for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and priority household (PHH) ration cardholders. The eligible beneficiaries will receive 5kg of foodgrains and 1 kg Gram per month.

2.Indian Oil, NTPC and SDMC have signed an MoU to develop a waste-to-energy facility at Delhi’s Okhla landfill site using gasification technology. The initiative is aimed at providing a Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) as a developmental effort that would benefit both vehicle-users as well as farmers and entrepreneurs.

3.International Asteroid Day: Celebrated on 30th June. It is observed each year to mark the anniversary of the Tunguska impact over Siberia, Russian Federation. The Tunguska asteroid event in Siberia, Russian Federation, on 30 June 1908, was the Earth’s largest asteroid impact in recorded history. 

4. Hul Divas is observed annually on June 30 in memory of tribals — Sidho and Kanhu Murmu — who led the Santhal hul (rebellion) on June 30, 1855, at Bhognadih in Sahebganj district in Jharkhand district.

5.National Doctor’s Day is Celebrated on July 1 every year to honour eminent physician Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy. The theme this year is “lessen the mortality of COVID-19”.

6. The Ministry of Culture in partnership with International Buddhist Confederation (IBC) will celebrate the Asadha Poornima on 4th July, 2020 as Dharma Chakra Day. It marks Buddha’s first teaching after attaining Enlightenment .

7. Prerak Dauur Samman: It is a new category of awards announced as part of Swachh Survekshan 2021.

8. Recently Prime Minister travelled to Nimu in Ladakh to interact with Indian troops. Nimu is the reserve brigade headquarter of the Indian Army. It is surrounded by the Zanskar range. It is famous for offering view of the confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers.

9. In a major development, the central Government has sanctioned an additional Rs 1,691 crore for the construction of highways by the Border Roads Organization (BRO) in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and Uttarakhand during 2020-21 in the wake of clashes with China in Ladakh.

10. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray launched the world's largest plasma therapy trials for the COVID-19 "Project Platina". The project is aimed at creating robust data for treating the disease for which no specific line of treatment exists.

11. The Appointments Committee of the Union Cabinet has approved the re-appointment of senior advocate K.K. Venugopal as Attorney General of India for a year.

12. The first mobile app of National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA), "NADA INDIA" was released by Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju. The initiative is an important step towards dope free sports, providing updates & information about the banned substances and their use to aware the athletes & Coaches.

13. Chakravarthi Rangarajan won the first Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis National Award on National Statistics Day.

14. Uganda became the first African country to submit the results for Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

15. Indian Navy and Japanese Navy (Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force) have conducted a day long Naval Exercise PASSEX (Passing Exercise) for tactical and communications training, towards the Malacca Strait in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR).

16. Government announced that it will release commemorative stamp to honour former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He is regarded as the 'Father of Indian Economic Reforms'. 

17. The Swedish Institute of Space Physics(IRF) will explore Venus for the second time through the India's 1st Venus Mission Shukrayaan-1. The Shukrayaan-1 is scheduled for launch at the end of 2023 from Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh.

18. Indra Mani Pandey was appointed as India's Permanent Representative /Ambassador to the United Nations and the other International Organisations in Geneva.

19. The commonwealth writers announced Kritika Pandey, the winner of asian region prize as the overall winner of the 2020 Commonwealth Short Story Prize for her story, "The Great Indian Tee and Snakes".
