Current affairs notes on July 17

1.Union HRD Minister launched the first on-line NISHTHA programme for 1,200 Key Resources Persons of Andhra Pradesh.  About NISHTHA: The initiative is an Integrated Teacher Training Programme of the Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of HRD as part of its National Mission to improve learning outcomes at the Elementary level under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Samagra Shiksha.

2. Prime Minister to address High-Level Segment of ECOSOC. Theme: “Multilateralism after COVID19: What kind of UN do we need at the 75th anniversary”. The UN Charter established ECOSOC in 1945 as one of the six main organs of the United Nations. It is the principal body for coordination, policy review, policy dialogue and recommendations on economic, social and environmental issues, as well as implementation of internationally agreed development goals.

3.Assam government has decided to Give Preference To Plasma Donors In Government Jobs.

4.The first trial container ship flagged off from Kolkata to Agartala through Chattogram Port of Bangladesh. The ship has been launched under the Agreement on the use of Chattogram and Mongla Ports for the movement of India’s transit cargo through Bangladesh.

5. India and Bhutan have opened a new trade route between Jaigaon in West Bengal and Pasakha in Bhutan. This new land route for movement of industrial raw materials and goods destined for Pasakha Industrial Estate will boost bilateral trade and commerce and lead to decongestion of vehicular traffic along the Jaigaon-Phuentsholing route.

6. Recently, India and the European Union (EU) agreed to renew the Agreement on Scientific Cooperation for the next five years (2020-2025) during the virtual 15th India-EU Summit. European Union (EU)  is an international organization comprising 27 European countries and governing common economic, social, and security policies.

7. Recently, the Office of the Registrar General’s Sample Registration System (SRS) has released a special bulletin on Maternal Mortality in India 2016-18. Office of the Registrar General is under the Ministry of Home Affairs. MMR is defined as the number of maternal deaths during a given time period per 1,00,000 live births during the same time period.

8. Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) celebrated its 92nd foundation day on 16th July 2020. It is an autonomous organisation under the Department of Agricultural Research and Education (DARE), Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India. The 'Kisan Diwas' or National Farmers Day is observed across the country on 23rd December to celebrate the birth anniversary of Chaudhary Charan Singh, the former Prime Minister of India. The World Food Prize is also known as the "Nobel Prize for Food and Agriculture". Dr. Rattan Lal has been declared the winner of the World Food Prize 2020.
