1.The Andhra Pradesh government has bagged the Central Board of Irrigation and Power (CBIP) award for speedy execution of Polavaram multipurpose project on the Godavari river.

2.The United Nations observed the first official World Braille Day on 4th January to create awareness about the importance of Braille.World Braille Day is celebrated on the January 4th to honour Louis Braille, who is credited for inventing the Braille script.

3. Mandal Dam is being built on the North Koel River.The Mandal Dam project will help around one lakh eleven thousand hectares of agricultural land in Jharkhand and Bihar to get irrigation facilities.

4.Gita Gopinath has joined International Monetary Fund as its chief economist. She is the first woman to occupy the post of chief economist of IMF. She is the 11th chief economist of the IMF.

5.'Gangajal project' Giving a major push to develop and enhance Tourism infrastructure in Agra, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched a series of development projects there.

6. India’s longest single-lane steel cable suspension bridge has been inaugurated over Siang River in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh.It is also known as byorung bridge. 

7.World Hindi Day is celebrated on January 10 every year, marking the anniversary of first World Hindi Conference which was held in 1975 by then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.National Hindi Diwas is celebrated every year on September 14.

8.The government has announced the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). This is the first ever effort in the country to frame a national framework for air quality management with a time-bound reduction target.

9.The Union Cabinet approved a 10% reservation for 'economically backward' upper castes in government jobs.A bill to amend Article 15 and 16 of the constitution will be moved in Parliament to this effect.

10.Switzerland's Roger Federer and Belinda Bencic secured victory over Germany's Angelique Kerber and Alexander Zverev to win the Hopman Cup for the second year in a row. 

11.The government of India issued an 'Orange' alert for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands due Cyclonic storm 'Pabuk' on 6 January 2019.

12.Indian mountaineer Dr. Arunima Sinha has become the world’s first female Amputee to scale Antarctica's Highest Peak - Mount Vinson on 4th January 2019.

13.The provincial Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in northwest Pakistan has declared the ancient Hindu religious site of Panj Tirath in the provincial capital Peshawar as national heritage.

15.Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has constituted a High-Level Committee on Deepening of Digital Payments to encourage digitisation of payments and enhance financial inclusion. The five-member committee headed by UIDAI's former Chairman Nandan Nilekani .

16.Global Aviation Summit 2019 with the theme "Flying for all" will be organized by the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) in collaboration with FICCI from January 15-16, 2019 in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

17.Nobel Peace Prize winner and Pakistani activist Malala Yousafzai pens a new book, titled 'We Are Displaced: My Journey and Stories from Refugee Girls Around the World,' 

18.The World Bank has recently released 2019 Global Economic Prospects report titled “Darkening Skies”, which forecasted that India’s GDP is expected to grow at 7.3% in the fiscal year 2018-19, and 7.5% in the following two years.

19.Nicolas Maduro was sworn in for a second term as Venezuela's President amid the economic and humanitarian crisis faced by the Latin American country. Maduro was re-elected last year.
