1.The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to
award the Nobel Prize in Chemistry 2018
with one half to Frances H. Arnold (USA) "for the directed evolution of enzymes"
and the other half jointly to George P. Smith (USA) and Sir Gregory P. Winter
(UK) "for the phage display of peptides and antibodies".
2.Prithvi Shaw has
become the youngest Indian to score a century on Test debut, achieving the feat
aged 18 years and 329 days against Windies in Rajkot, Gujarat.
3.Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, CCEA, has increased
the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for all
Rabi crops for the current financial year which will be marketed in 2019-20
season.MSP
is an Agriculture product price set by the Government of India to purchase
directly from the farmer. This rate is to safeguard farmer to minimum profit
for the harvest period.
4.Asian
Development Bank (ADB) and the Government of India signed a $150 million Loan
Agreement in New Delhi to establish a
Global Skills Park (GSP) in Madhya
Pradesh, the First Multi-Skills Park in India.
5.National Swachh
Survekshan Grameen 2018 commissioned by Ministry of Drinking Water and
Sanitation, Haryana was ranked
as the best State while Satara District of Maharashtra was ranked as the best
district as per the ranking undertaken by Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2018.
Ministry of Railways was named the best department for its
contribution to "Swachchta Pakhwada" under the "Swachchta Hi
Seva" category of awards.
6.Rio Paralympic gold medallist Thangvellu Mariyappan has been named as flag-bearer of the Indian
contingent for the 3rd Paralympic Asian
games to be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from October 6-13.
7.Indian International
Science Festival (IISF) 2018 will start in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh.
President Ramnath Kovind will formally inaugurate the festival. IISF-2018 with
its focal theme "Science for Transformation".
8.Manipur Chief
Minister N Biren Singh declared Manipur as the 23rd state in the country to
become Open Defecation Free (ODF) in India. It is the 5th North-Eastern state
to get the tag.
9.A joint exercise of 'Sahyog-Hop
Tac 2018' commenced off Chennai coast between Vietnam and India. In this bilateral exercise, Vietnam Coast Guard
ship CSB 8001 took part in it or the first time.
10.The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2018 Nobel Peace Prize to Denis Mukwege
and Nadia Murad "for their efforts to end the use of sexual violence as a
weapon of war and armed conflict".
11.On the 149th birth
anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal hoisted
India’s tallest National Flag from the average city elevation at the
Gandhi Mandap in Guwahati.
12.Prime
Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first-ever General Assembly of International Solar Alliance (ISA) at
Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi.The same event also marked the inauguration of the
2nd IORA Renewable Energy Ministerial Meeting, and the 2nd Global RE-Invest
(Renewable Energy Investors’ Meet
and Expo).
13.Udyam Abhilasha is a National Level Entrepreneurship
Awareness Campaign launched by Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) on the occasion of Birth
Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. SIDBI was set up on 2nd April 1990.
14.Assam
Government has become the first Indian
state to offer a Wage Compensation Scheme for pregnant women working in the tea
gardens of the state.
15.India has launched massive humanitarian operation Samudra Maitri to provide assistance to earthquake
and tsunami victims in Indonesia.
16.India-born Gita Gopinath has been appointed as the
Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).She has become
the first woman to hold the position.she is second indian after Raguram rajan
to hold this position.
17.Pankaj Sharma has been appointed as ambassador and India’s
permanent representative to United
Nations Conference on Disarmament in Geneva.The Conference on Disarmament
(CD) is a multilateral disarmament forum established by the international
community to negotiate arms control and disarmament agreements based at the
Palais des Nations in Geneva.
18.The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, under the aegis
of Swachh Bharat Mission – Urban has partnered with Google to launch the Loo Review campaign.It is aimed to encourage all local guides in India
to rate and review public toilets on Google Maps.
