1.Turtle 'Olly' has been declared as the official mascot for the Odisha Men's Hockey World Cup. Hockey World Cup is scheduled to be held at the Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar from November 28 to December 16, 2018. 'Olly' represents the endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles. 

2.Indian Naval Ship (INS) Kulish and an Indian Dornier (naval maritime time patrol aircraft) from Andaman and Nicobar command entered Belawan harbour, Indonesia. INS Kulish and Indian Dornier will attend the 32nd edition of 'India - Indonesia coordinated patrol' (IND-INDO CORPAT).

3.Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) started Roll on-Roll off (Ro-Ro) facility in collaboration with the Government of Assam for Majuli Island. IWAI has procured a new vessel 'MV Bhupen Hazarika' for the new Ro-Ro service.

4.Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Human Rights Commission's (NHRC) 25th anniversary and said that it has an important role to play in government's efforts to achieve sustainable development goals.

5.Rashtriya Mahila Kisan Diwas is celebrated on 15th of October. In 2016, the Ministry had decided to observe 15th October as RMKD to recognise the contribution of women farmers in various aspects of agriculture including sowing, planting, fertilizing, plant protection, harvesting, weeding, and storage.

6.The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is to implement an emergency action plan called the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). It aimed at combating air pollution that has begun to show a trend towards very poor category. Under the emergency action plan, stringent actions are implemented based on the air quality of the city.

7.Dushanbe, Tajikistan is the venue of the 17th CHG of meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had participated in it.

8.The National Stock Exchange (NSE) has recently signed pact with the Uttarakhand government to provide access to capital to MSMEs, which will fuel growth of such entities in the state.

9.India and China have launched their first joint programme for Afghanistan to train its diplomats from October 15-26 under the aegis of the Trilateral Cooperation between India, China and Afghanistan.

10.India has been re-elected to UNHRC for a period of three years beginning January 1, 2019.UNHRC  was established in 2006 with the aim of promoting and protecting human rights around the globe, as well as investigating alleged human rights violations.

11.Guadeloupean author Maryse Conde has won the New Academy Prize in Literature, an alternative award formed in protest to Nobel Literature Prize.

12.Sikkim has been awarded UN Food and Agriculture Organisation’s (FAO) Future Policy Gold Award (Gold Prize) for its achievement in becoming the world’s first totally organic agriculture state.
