1.India is to gift three MiG-21 fighter jets to Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin is to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi be in

2.The Nobel Medicine or Physiology Prize has been awarded to
James P Allison and Tasaku Honjo "for their discovery of cancer therapy by
inhibition of negative immune regulation".The Nobel Prize in Physiology or
Medicine was awarded by the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm,
Sweden.
3.Minister of Railways and Coal, Shri Piyush Goyal has
launched the first of its kind "Rail Heritage Digitisation Project"
of Indian Railways in collaboration with Google Arts & Culture.It is
considered to be the largest cultural heritage digitization project in the Asia
Pacific Region.
4.The sixth edition of IBSAMAR, a joint Multi-National
Maritime Exercise between the Indian, Brazilian and South African Navies, is
being held at Simons Town, South Africa.
5.The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences has decided to Award
the 2018 Nobel Prize in Physics to Arthur Ashkin, Gerard Mourou and Donna
Strickland "for groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser
physics".
6.The Vice President of India M. Venkiah Naidu gave
"Vayoshreshtha Samman-2018" to senior citizens on October 1,
2018. Vayoshreshtha Samman is a Scheme of National Awards instituted by
the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment.
7.Odisha government launched the State's own food security
scheme to cover the poor people. As per the provisions of the
scheme, 25 lakh poor people left out from the benefits of the National Food
Security Act, will get rice of 5 kg per month for one rupee.
8.Justice Ranjan Gogoi has sworn-in as new Chief Justice of
India.Justice Gogoi is the 46th Chief Justice of India.
9.The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently launched a
new alcohol control initiative 'SAFER' to prevent and reduce alcohol-related
death and disability.The WHO-led initiative and action package aim to support
global target of reducing harmful use of alcohol by 10% by 2025.
10.As per the report "Trade and Development" of
UNCTAD it is expected that India's economy to grow 7.0% in calendar year
2018 compared with 6.2% in 2017. High CAD, Demonitisation has impacted a lot.
11.Kolkata city has
recently launched India’s first Flood Forecasting and Early Warning System
(FFEWS).
12.Indian
shooter Manu Bhaker has been named as the flag-bearer of the Indian
contingent for the 3rd Youth Olympic Games to be held at Buenos Aires in
Argentina from Oct 6-18.
13.The
nationwide Action Research Project of Gram Panchayat development scheme has
been inaugurated by the Minister of Rural Development Narendra Singh Tomar
at at Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.The main purpose of this project is to
ensure the overall development by capacity building, administrative reform and
public participation.
14.Petroleum
and Natural Gas Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan has recently launched an
innovative initiative called SATAT (Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation) in New
Delhi on 1st October 2018 to promote Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) as an alternative
fuel.
15.The Mahatma Gandhi International
Sanitation Convention is being organised by the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation to mark the
beginning of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi, also coinciding with the fourth
anniversary of the launch of Swachh Bharat Mission.
16.The United Nations designated the first Monday of
October of every year as World Habitat Day to reflect on the state of our
towns and cities, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter. 2018 theme: Municipal Solid Waste

17.The second edition of Exercise Aviaindra, a Biennial Air
Force level exercise between Indian and the Russian Federation, was held
recently in Russia.
18. Geological Survey of India has chosen heritage
locations in Maharashtra and Karnataka such as Lonar Lake in
Maharashtra and St. Mary’s Island and Malpe beach in
coastal Karnataka are the GSI’s candidates for UNESCO Global Geopark Network
status.
19.The Bombay Stock Exchange became the first stock exchange
in the country to launch commodity derivatives contract in gold and silver.A
derivative is a contract between two parties which derives its value/price from
an underlying asset.
