1.World Food Day is celebrated every year around the world on 16 October in honor of the date of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in 1945. The theme for WFD 2018 is "Our Actions Are Our Future".

2.The third Asian Para Games took place in Jakarta, Indonesia.The official mascot of the 2018 Asian Para Games is a Bondol eagle named MOMO, India recorded its best-ever medal haul at the Asian Para Games by ending the 2018 edition with 72 medals.

3.Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh launched 3 apps to prevent crop residue burning. Its objective is to check and create awareness about environmental effects of crop residue burning. The apps are: i-Khet Machine, e-PEHaL and e-Prevent.

4.External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj has participated in the 17th Council of Heads of Government (CHG-2018) meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan from October 11th to 12th . This was the 2nd CHG meeting since India became a full member of SCO in June 2017.

5.The Australian government is to engage actively with Tamil Nadu at the upcoming Global Investors Meet 2019. It is to pursue opportunities in education, road safety technology, urban infrastructure, fisheries and agribusiness. 

6.The 14th edition of the Men’s Hockey World Cup will be held at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar from 28 November to 16 December, 2018. Turtle Olly has been declared as the official mascot of 2018 tournament.

7.The India International Silk Fair (IISF-2018) has inaugurated by Union Minister Smriti Irani at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi on October 16.

8.World Economic Forum released the Global Competitiveness Report 2018. According to the report, India has jumped five spots to become the 58th most competitive economy on the Global Competitiveness Index 2018.The Top 5 countries on the Index are: 1. US, 2. Singapore, 3. Germany, 4. Switzerland, and 5. Japan.

9.The 12th Asia Europe Meeting (ASEM) summit 2018 will be held in Brussels, Belgium from October 18 with theme "Global Partners for Global Challenges". Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu will lead the Indian delegation at the two-day summit.

10.The festival of Fulpati has recently celebrated with traditional gaiety and religious fervour in various parts of Nepal.

11. India and Japan are all set to hold the first-ever joint military exercise 'DHARMA GUARDIAN-2018' involving the Indian Army and Japan Ground Self Defence Force in Mizoram, India. 

12.Irish Author Anna Burns has won the prestigious 2018 Man Booker Prize for Fiction for her novel ‘Milkman’. With this, she became the first Northern Irish author and the first woman since 2013 to win the prize.

13.Kerala is now set to become the India’s first smoke-free State with public sector oil companies eyeing 100% LPG penetration here.

14.The famous Shahi litchi of North Bihar has got the Geographical Indication (GI) tag.GI is a name or sign used on products to certify that they possess certain qualities for being made or produced as per traditional methods or enjoy a certain reputation due to its geographical origin. Shahi Litchi is mainly cultivated in Muzaffarpur.

15.The 6th Interregional Ministerial Meeting of Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) was held recently in Singapore.RCEP aims to boost goods trade by eliminating most tariff and non-tariff barriers — a move that is expected to provide the region’s consumers greater choice of quality products at affordable rates. 

16.Union Government has launched national campaign ‘Swasth Bharat Yatra’ on occasion of World Food Day (16 October) to sensitise people about eating safe food and be healthy. 

17.Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has launched Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered chatbot– Ask Disha ((Digital Interaction to Seek Help Anytime) to help its users answer various queries.

18.The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved the proposal of the state government to rename the city of ‘Allahabad’ as ‘Prayagraj’. 

19.China is in the process of creating an “artificial moon” that would be bright enough to replace the streetlights in the south-western city of Chengdu by 2020.

20.Unocoin Technologies Private Ltd has set up India’s first ATM kiosk to trade in cryptocurrencies in Bengaluru. A cryptocurrency is a basically a digital asset that has been created to function as a medium of exchange, like cash.
