1.The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Shri
Narendra Modi has approved the renaming of Jharsuguda Airport, Odisha as
"Veer Surendra Sai Airport, Jharsuguda".
2.NASA's Parker Solar Probe has become the closest spacecraft
to Sun, on 29th October 2018. The spacecraft passed the current record of 26.55
million miles from the Sun's surface on October 29.
3.India improved its ranking on the World Bank's 'ease of
doing business' report for the second straight year, jumping 23 places to the
77th position,New Zealand tops the list of 190 countries.
4.The 1st edition of North East Olympic Games 2018 was held
at Main Stadium Khuman Lampak Sports Complex, in Imphal, Manipur. Manipur was
crowned as the overall champions.
5.China has launched an 'Oceanography Satellite' on 29th
October 2018. The 'China-France Oceanography Satellite' (CFOSAT) is the first
satellite jointly built by China and France.
6.The Republic of Seychelles has launched the world’s first
sovereign blue bond – a financial instrument designed to support sustainable
marine and fisheries projects.
7.Pankaj Advani has become the first Indian to win an
Asian Snooker Tour event.
8.Naveen Patnaik, the Chief Minister of Odisha, has recently
launched ‘Soura Jalanidhi’ scheme which aims at increasing use of solar energy
for helping farmers in irrigation.
9.On November 1, former Indian cricket captain Rahul Dravid
has officially been inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame for his
stupendous achievement in international cricket.
10.Noted Malayalam writer M Mukundan has been selected for
2018 Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the highest literacy prize of the Kerala
government.
11.Justice Debasish Kar Gupta has recently been sworn-in as
the new chief justice of the Calcutta High Court. It is the oldest High Court
in India and has jurisdiction over the state of West Bengal and the Union
Territory of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
12.Olympic bronze medalist and five-time World Champion, MC
Mary Kom has been named as the brand ambassador of the 10th edition of the
Women's World Championship in New Delhi.
13.The world's largest airport terminal "under one
roof" with a capacity to serve 90 million passengers has been officially
opened on October 29 in Istanbul, which marks the Republic Day of Turkey.
14.The first-ever Indo-Japan joint military exercise “Dharma
Guardian- 2018” has started at a jungle warfare school in Mizoram’s Vairengte
with a focus on strengthening counter-terror cooperation.
15.Recently, China has successfully launched its first
geostationary BeiDou-3 satellite ‘G1Q’ into high orbit (about 36,000 km above
the Earth) to boost its home-grown BeiDou global satellite navigation
system.
16.The Maharashtra Cabinet has recently approved the
conversion of decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat into a floating
museum. It will be India’s first-ever moored maritime museum-cum-marine
adventure centre.
17.IIT Madras has designed and booted up 'Shakti', which
can be used for wireless and networking systems, as well as mobile computing.
'Shakti' is India's first and indigenous microprocessor.
18.The voyage named INS Tarangini kochi 'Lokayan
18' was flag-ged off on April 10 from Kochi to sail acr-oss the Arabian Sea,
Red Sea, Suez Canal, Mediterranean Sea, Strait of Gibraltar, North Atlantic
Ocean, Bay of Biscay, English Channel and North Sea, right up to Norway.
19.The 2nd edition of the India International Cherry Blossom
(IICB) festival in Shillong, which is is scheduled to be held from November 14
and 17. It is the world’s only autumn cherry blossom festival.
20.The United Nations (UN) has designated every 31st of
October as World Cities Day,2018 theme ‘Building Sustainable and Resilient
Cities’.
21.The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has awarded the Assam
Police for “good practices” under the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network &
Systems (CCTNS),
22.The ‘Little India Gate’, the first-of-its-kind structure
in Indonesia, has recently inaugurated at Kampung Madras or Madras Village area
in Medan city,the 4th largest city in the country. It recognises the
contribution of Indian community in the development of Medan city.
23.The National Mission for Clean Ganga partnered with UN
Habitat recently organized a policy dialogue- ‘Urban Cafe: River for Habitat’
in New Delhi on the occasion of World Cities Day 2018.
24.India has successfully conducted the night trial of the
indigenously developed nuclear capable Agni-I ballistic missile off the Odisha
coast. The 15-metre-long Agni-I,
which can carry payloads up to 1000 kg, has already been inducted into the
Indian Army.
25. The centre has announced that a stadium of international standard for
differently-abled persons will be set up in Meghalaya.
26. The Western Pacific nation of Palau has become the first country to
ban many kinds of sunscreen, in a move to protect its coral reefs from
chemicals that scientists say cause significant damage.
