Current affairs notes on 26/06/2018

1.President Kovind will present the 4th "National Awards for outstanding services in the field of Prevention of Alcoholism and Substance (Drug) Abuse" on the occasion of 'International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking' on 26th June. The function organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment in New Delhi. The Awards were started in 2013 and conferred biennially.

2. M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated a two-day National Consultation on 'Making Agriculture Sustainable and Profitable' in Pune which  was organized by the Indian Institute of Public Administration (IIPA) of which the Vice President of India is the Chairman.

3.Lewis Hamilton, a British racing driver who races in Formula One for Mercedes AMG Petronas, has won the 2018 Formula One French Grand Prix tournament at the Circuit Paul Ricard in Le Castellet, France on June 24.

4.Bollywood Actress Kalki Koechlin has been conferred with the French distinction of Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters (Chevalier dans l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres) for her contribution in enhancing Indo-French ties in cinema on June 22, 2018. 

5.Pallavi Durua who belongs to Odisha’s Koraput district, has been crowned as the India’s first “Tribal Queen” at the Adi Rani Kalinga Tribal Queen competition held at Utkal Mandap on June 26, 2018. The prime objective of the event was to promote tribal art and culture.

6.Government proposes to set up 3000 'Van Dhan Kendras' involving 30,000 SHGs across the country.The initiative aims to promote Minor Forest Produce MFPs-centric livelihood development of tribal gatherers and artisans. It mainstreams the tribal community by promoting primary level value addition to MFP at grassroots level.

7.The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has approved construction of another 3,18,900 affordable houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (Urban).The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Programme launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation (Min Mission mode envisions provision of Housing for All by 2022.

8.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has come out with draft guidelines on constituting a board of management (BoM) in addition to the board of directors, for urban cooperative banks (UCBs), with the aim of strengthening the governance in these banks.

9.Seychelles has gifted a pair of giant Aldabra tortoise to India. The pair will be kept at Hyderabad Zoo.It is in ‘vulnerable’ category of Red.is said to be one of the largest species of tortoises on the planet.

10.India has again opposed the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a part of Beijing’s One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative, as it “encroaches” on sovereignty and territorial integrity. CPEC eventually aims at linking the city of Gwadar in South Western Pakistan to China’s North Western region Xinjiang through a vast network of highways and railways.
