1.The 22nd edition of the trilateral naval
exercise “Malabar 2018” has started between India, Japan and United States from
June 6-15. India is being represented by the stealth frigate INS Sahyadri,
stealth corvettes INS Kamorta, and the Deepak-class fleet tanker INS Shakti,
IANS reported.
2.S Ramesh has been appointed as the new
chairman of Central Board of Indirect taxes and Customs (CBIC). The CBIC is
the apex body for administering the levy and collection of indirect taxes of
the Union of India viz. Central Excise duty, Customs duty and Service Tax, and
for facilitating cross border movement of goods & services. It is a part of
the Department of Revenue under the Ministry of Finance.
3.The United States has decided
to provide security guarantees to North Korea, in exchange of Pyongyang's firm
and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula.
This is according to the joint document which was signed by US President Donald
Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un following their historic maiden talks
at Singapore's Sentosa island.
4.SVC Co-operative Bank has
received the National Payments Excellence Award2017 by National Payments
Corporation of India (NPCI). It is the highest recognition in the banking
industry for exceptional performance in payments system.
5. 11th World Hindi
Conference in Mauritius is likely to produce directives to increase the
popularity of Hindi globally. The World Hindi Conference is a major event
organised every three years by the External Affairs Ministry. The World Hindi
Secretariat (WHS) supported by India is located in Mauritius.
6.The International Labour
Organization (ILO) launched the World Day Against Child Labour in 2002 to focus
attention on the global extent of child labour and the action and efforts
needed to eliminate it. Every year on June 12 the World Day Against Child Labor
is observed to raise awareness of the plight of child laborers worldwide. The 2018 theme ‘Generation Safe &
Healthy’ .
7.Bangladesh won the Women's
Asia T20 Cup 2018 at the Kinrara Academy Oval in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Bangladesh defeated India by three wickets in the final and won their first
Asia Cup title.
8.The Government of India (GoI) has
launched 5,000 Wi-Fi Choupals in villages and delivery of rail tickets through
Common Service Centres (CSCs).The move is aimed at transforming rural Internet
connectivity through BharatNet. The WiFi Choupals will enable people in rural
areas with an effective Internet access for their various digital
processes.
9.The Assam government will
soon launch an awareness programme ‘Sanskar’– in all development blocks and
panchayats. The move is taken in the wake of incidents triggered by
superstition and ignorance including the lynching of two young artistes in
Karbi Anglong district of the state.
10.Piyush Goyal, the Union
Minister of Railways & Coal, has launched two new mobile apps – ‘Rail
Madad’ and ‘Menu on Rails’ – to ease the travelling experience of the
commuters. The Rail Madad app is aimed at expediting & streamlining
passenger grievance redressal while the ‘Menu on Rails’ app will allow
passengers to check the list of meals and beverages served on all type of
trains and their prices.
11.India will host the first
military exercise of the BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral
Technical and Economic Cooperation) group focusing on counter-terrorism in Pune
on September 2018.BIMSTEC was set up in 1997 and includes India, Bangladesh,
Bhutan Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Thailand.
12.IMAP is a science mission of NASA planned
for launch in 2024 that will sample, analyze, and map particles streaming to
Earth from the edges of interstellar space. IMAP mission will help
researchers better understand the boundary of the heliosphere, a sort of
magnetic bubble surrounding and protecting our solar system. This is the fifth
mission in NASA’s Solar Terrestrial Probes (STP) Program portfolio.
