1.Shillong has been selected as the 100th city to
receive funding under the Centre's flagship "Smart Cities Mission".
In January 2016, 20 cities were announced under the Smart Cities Mission,
followed by 13 cities in May 2016, 27 cities in September 2016, 30 cities in
June 2017, and 9 cities in January this year.Under the scheme, each city will
get Rs 500 crore from the Centre for implementing various projects.
2.India and Italy agreed to boost cooperation in
counter-terrorism and cybersecurity as External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj
met the top Italian leadership and discussed steps to revitalise bilateral
ties.
3.The tri-service joint Russia-India military exercise
Indra-2018 will take place in an Indian military base in the second half of
this year. Russia has been a long-standing defence partner of India.
4.The Haryana Government has launched 7-Star Gram Panchayat
Rainbow scheme to give star rankings to its panchayats on the basis of 7 social
parameters. The panchayats will be judged on sex ratio, education, hygiene,
environment preservation, governance and social participation.
5.Under 'India Smart Cities Award' 2018, Surat has been
awarded for showcasing "great momentum" in the implementation of
projects under the Smart Cities Mission, according to the Housing and Urban
Affairs (HUA) Ministry. Bhopal and Ahmedabad were selected in the 'Innovative
Idea' category for their "transformative approach towards sustainable
integrated development". Under 'urban environment' category- Bhopal, Pune
and Coimbatore bagged the award for public bike-sharing project.
6.Vishwas
Mandalik (from Nasik) and The Yoga Institute (in Mumbai) have been selected as
recipients of the Prime Minister’s award for outstanding contribution for
promotion and development of yoga for the year 2018.
7.On June 19, the United States has withdrawn from the United
Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) and condemned alleged hypocrisy of its members
and bias against Israel.
8. June 21,In the 4th edition of International Yoga Day
(IYD-2018), the Guinness World Record (GWR) for largest number of people
performing yoga at one place at the same time has been set up in Kota,
Rajasthan. This year, the theme is ‘Yoga for peace’.
9.Nasscom
unveiled its 'Women Wizards Rule Tech' programme for women techies to support
women in being successful and thus increasing the number of women as senior
officials in the IT field. The Women Wizards Rule Tech was announced in March
at the Nasscom Diversity and Inclusion Summit in Chennai as a joint initiative
by the Nasscom Sector Skills Council and the Data Security Council of
India.
10.The Union ministry of health and family welfare has
launched the National Health Resource Repository (NHRR). The NHRR project aims to strengthen evidence-based
decision making and develop a platform for citizens and provider-centric
services by creating a robust, standardised and secured Information Technology
(IT)-enabled repository of India’s healthcare resources. The Indian
Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is the project technology partner for providing data security. NHRR shall be the registry of authentic,
standardised and updated geo-spatial data of all public and private healthcare.
11.Stockholm International Peace
Research Institute (SIPRI) has released its 2018 edition of the yearly report
on the current state of armaments, disarmament and international security. There are nine countries which have nuclear
warheads. They include Russia, the US, the UK, France, China, Israel, India,
Pakistan and North Korea. India, which had an estimated 120-130
nuclear warheads as per 2017 report, now has 130-140 warheads.
12.The Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) is planning to
introduce a globally accepted and well-recognised cross-border insolvency
framework, fine-tuned to suit the needs of aspirational Indian economy. Inclusion of cross-border insolvency framework
will further enhance ease of doing business, provide a mechanism of cooperation
between India and other countries in the area of insolvency resolution, and
protect creditors in the global scenario.
13.The last of the five Fast Patrol
Vessel (FPV) project of Indian Coast Guard ‘Rani Rashmoni’ was recently
commissioned into the Indian Coast Guard. The FPV was indigenously built by
Hindustan Shipyard.
