1.Naomi Osaka became the first Japanese woman to win a Grand Slam title after she registered an emphatic win over Serena Williams in the finals of the U.S Open.

2.In the US Open Tennis, Novak Djokovic of Serbia won the Men's singles final. He defeated Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina in straight sets. It was Djokovic's 14th Grand Slam title and the third US Open title.

3.India's current account deficit (CAD) widened to a four-quarter-high at 2.4% of gross domestic product (GDP) in April-June period on the back of rising crude oil prices, from 1.9% of GDP in the January-March quarter of 2017-18.The current account deficit is a measurement of a country's trade where the value of the goods and services it imports exceeds the value of the goods and services it exports.

4.China launched a new marine satellite HY-1C on Long March-2C rocket for surveying climate change recently.

5.The armies of India and the US decided to hold an annual combat exercise "Yudh Abhyas" at Chaubatia in Uttarakhand from September 16 to 29, 2018. It aims to enhance inter-operability between the two forces.This happened after the agreement of 'The Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA)' was signed between the two countries.

6.India Blue defeated India Red and won 57th Duleep Trophy. It was the 57th season of the Duleep Trophy, a first-class cricket tournament in India. 

7.The International Literacy Day (ILD) is celebrated every year on 8 September.The 2018 theme “Literacy and skills development” .

8.Triple jumper Arpinder Singh has created history by becoming the first Indian to win a medal in the IAAF Continental Cup as he clinched a bronze .The IAAF Continental Cup is being competed in 37 events in men and women sections taken together with two top athletes from the four regions of Europe, Americas, Africa and Asia-Pacific taking part in each of them. Earlier, Arpinder clinched gold in the 2018 Jakarta Asian Games.

9.Nehal Chudasama from Mumbai will represent at the 67th Miss Universe 2018 pageant, which is scheduled to be held in Bangkok, Thailand on 16th December 2018. 

10.The Bogibeel Bridge is a combined road and rail bridge over the Brahmaputra River in Assam, it is the  longest rail-cum-road bridge in india.

11.The first BIMSTEC field training exercise is being held at Foreign Training Node at Aundh in Pune, Maharashtra. Armies of BIMSTEC members including India, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Thailand and Nepal will participate in it.

12.4th World Summit on Accreditation (WOSA-2018) is being held at New Delhi. It is being organized by the National Board of Accreditation (NBA).NBA is an autonomous organisation under Ministry of Human Resource Development engaged in quality assurance of the programs offered by the professional and technical institutions in India through accreditation.

13.Himachal State Wildlife Department have spotted snow leopard in Lippa-Asra wildlife sanctuary in Kinnaur district of Himachal Pradesh. Vulnerable under IUCN Red list. The snow leopard is the state animal of Uttarakhand and the National Heritage Animal of Pakistan.


14.Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru is set to become the first airport in Asia next year to use face recognition as the boarding procedure for passengers to board flights and move across different sections of the airport.

15.Researchers recently spotted ‘Pondicherry shark’, an endangered species protected under the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, in the East Godavari River Estuarine Ecosystem region. IUCN has listed the Pondicherry shark as Critically Endangered.
