1.The Unified Commanders' Conference (UCC) for the year
2018 has started at New Delhi on July 30 to review external security challenges
as well as the country's preparedness. The conference will provide a
platform for discussions at the Apex Level on all 'Joint Issues' among the
three Services & Ministry of Defence.
2.India jumped 22 places to 96th rank in the top 100 of the
United Nations E-Government Development Index (EGDI) 2018. Denmark, with an
index value of 0.9150, topped the 2018 E-Government Development Survey. The
E-Government survey is released by the United Nations in every two years.
3.The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) increased the repo rate by
25 basis points to 6.5% and the reverse repo rate to 6.25%. The marginal
standing facility rate and the bank rate have been adjusted to 6.75%.Repo rate
is the rate at which the RBI lends money to commercial banks in the event of a
shortfall of funds.
4.The advisory committee of the Rajiv Gandhi National
Sadbhavana Award has decided to award the Former West Bengal Governor
Gopalkrishna Gandhi, this year, with the Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award 2018. He
was chosen by the committee for his outstanding contribution for promoting
communal harmony, peace and goodwill. The award carries a citation and a
cash award of Rs.10 lakh.
5.Assam is the only state in India that has an NRC. In a bid
to identify the illegal Bangladeshi migrants, the government released the final
draft of National Register of Citizens (NRC).
6.India’s
first in-phone tourism guide and mobile application “Go whats That” has
launched by Dharmendra Pradhan, the Union Minister for Petroleum & Natural
Gas and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship.
7.The World Day against Trafficking in Persons is observed
every year on July 30 to raise awareness of the situation of victims of human
trafficking. The 2018 theme reflects“Responding to the trafficking of
children and young people” .
8.Karman Kaur Thandi from Delhi has become only the 6th
Indian woman tennis player to crack the top-200 rankings in singles and is now
ranked exactly 200 in the WTA list.
9.Rajasthan
has become the first State in the country to implement the
national policy on biofuels unveiled by the Centre in May this
year.
