Current affairs notes on 19/07/2018

1.India's first government sponsored 'Transgender Poets' meet held in Kolkata. This Meet was chaired by India's first transgender college principal Manabi Bandopadhyay.Event was organised by the Sahitya Akademi.

2. The Delhi Dialogue is a premier annual event to discuss politico-security, the economic and socio-cultural engagement between India and ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). The theme of 10th edition of Delhi dialogue meeting is, 'Strengthening India-ASEAN Maritime Cooperation'.

3.RBI has approved the appointment of Girish Chandra Chaturvedi as non-executive (part-time) Chairman of the ICICI bank till June 30, 2021. 

4.As part of Indo-US Bilateral Defence Cooperation, the 7th Defence Technology and Trade Initiative (DTTI) meeting was held between India and the US delegation in New Delhi. The aim is to bring sustained leadership focus to the bilateral defence trade relationship and create opportunities for co-production and co-development of defence equipment.

5.International Olympic Committee (IOC) has added seven medal events to the 2022 Beijing Winter Games, They are women's monobob, Big Air freestyle skiing for men and women, plus mixed team events in short track speed skating, ski jumping, ski aerials and snowboardcross.

6.According to Asian Development Bank (ADB)’s latest report “Asian Development Outlook (ADO)”, India’s GDP growth has been projected to rise 7.3% in current fiscal year FY19 (2018-19). The report also pointed that South Asia, led by India will continue to be the fastest growing sub-region despite rising tensions between the US and its trading partners. 

7.The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) has organised “Ganga Vriksharopan Abhiyan” in five main stem Ganga basin states – Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal from 9th July to 15th July 2018.

8.The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) amongst BRICS Nations on the Regional Aviation Partnership Cooperation viz. Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. It would benefit from the establishing of an institutional framework to cooperate in the field of civil aviation.

9.Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the Fair and Remunerative Price (FRP) of sugarcane. FRP is the minimum price that the sugar mills have to pay to farmers.  It is supposed to signal to farmers the need to plant more or less cane for the coming year.


10.'Ex Pitch Black' is a biennial multi-national large force employment warfare exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF). The Indian Air Force for the first time is participating with fighter aircraft in Exercise Pitch Black 2018.
