1.Michael Ondaatje's best selling novel 'The English
Patient' has been crowned as the winner of the Golden Man Booker Prize at the
Southbank Centre in London.
2.NASA's Parker Solar Probe will be launched in August 2018.Parker
Solar Probe will travel to the Sun's corona, a region of the solar atmosphere.
The spacecraft's orbit will carry it to within 4 million miles of the Sun's
surface with the help of its heat shield. There the spacecraft will collect
data about the inner workings of the corona.
3.India's first biofortified sorghum (jowar) that containing
higher iron and zinc than regular sorghum named as 'Parbhani
Shakti' .It has been introduced as a sustainable solution to rectify
micronutrient deficiency.
4.Integral Coach Factory (ICF) of Chennai announced the
launch of indigenously manufactured semi high-speed train, the train is named
as 'Train 18'.Train 18 doesn't require an engine to run as it will be
self-propelled on electric traction like the metro trains.
5.Dipa Karmakar clinched the gold medal at the FIG Artistic
Gymnastics World Challenge Cup in Mersin, Turkey.Dipa has created a history and
she is now the first Indian gymnast to win a gold in a world level event.
6.The 6th
edition of biennial World Cities Summit (WCS-2018) has started in Singapore
with theme “Liveable & Sustainable Cities: Embracing the Future through
Innovation and Collaboration” from July 8.
7.Gujarat
Government has granted religious minority status to Jews living in the state. Gujarat is
third state in India to grant religious minority status to Jews after
West Bengal and Maharashtra.
8.The Ministry of Housing and Urban
Affairs is set to launch the Global Housing Construction Technology Challenge
as part of the technology sub-mission of PMAY-U.The
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) Programme launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban
Poverty Alleviation (MoHUPA),
in Mission mode envisions provision of Housing for All by 2022.
9.First ever ‘India Tourism Mart’
will be hosted in New Delhi from 16th to 18th September by the Ministry of
Tourism in partnership with the Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism
and Hospitality (FAITH).It is
to create an annual Global Tourism Mart for
India in line with major international travel
marts being held in countries across
the world.
