1.The government has slashed the minimum annual deposit
requirement for accounts under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY) to Rs 250
from Rs 1,000.Sukanya Samriddhi scheme was launched in January 2015, under
which a parent or legal guardian can open an account in the name of the girl
child until she attains the age of ten years. The account opened under the
scheme will be valid for 21 years from the date of opening, after which it will
mature and the money will be paid to the girl child in whose name the account
is opened.
2.The first meeting of the India-Bangladesh Joint Committee
on Border Haats concluded in Agartala, Tripura.
3.Typhoon
Ampil hit Chinese financial hub Shanghai that brought heavy rainfall and
disrupted transport and shipping.
4.The official mascots for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and
Paralympic Games have been unveiled during a ceremony in the Japanese capital
Tokyo. The Olympic mascot “Miraitowa” is a blue-checked pointy-eared figure.
5. Iran
was the second-biggest oil supplier to Indian state refiners between April and
June. India is now Iran’s top oil client after China.
6.Odisha Government has unveiled first-ever ‘Tribal Atlas of
Odisha’, a compilation of demographic and cultural information of the tribal
population in the state. As per Census 2011, Odisha has the second highest
tribal population in the country after Madhya Pradesh.
7.Deshna Jain (20), who is from Tikamgarh in Madhya Pradesh,
has been crowned the 2018 Miss Asia (Deaf) title contest held in Taipei,
Taiwan. It's the first time since 2009 that an Indian has won any title in
the much coveted Miss and Mister Deaf International pageants.
